8 String Guitars
8 String Guitars
Unlike 7 string guitars, which have been around for some time, the 8 string is a much newer breed of electric guitar. With a low F#, 8 string guitars have a bellowing bass-like sound that is appropriate for heavier styles. Meshuggah guitarists Mårten Hagström and Fredrik Thordendal are the founding fathers of this diverse instrument, and have used it exclusively in their music for over a decade.
Much like their 7 string counterparts, 8 string guitars are also produced by brands that are synonymous with metal, such as Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter and Chapman Guitars. If you're interested in broadening your sonic horizons, these guitars give you a near-limitless amount of flexibility for songwriting.
