Single Coil Electric Guitars

Single Coil electric guitars come in many different shapes, sizes and forms but one thing ties them all together. That's their pickup configuration having single coil pickups instead of humbucking pickups. 

Single Coils are well known for being brighter and janglier than most humbuckers and have been used in thousands of guitars and pretty much every genre of music over the years. You'll normally find famous guitars like Fender Stratocasters and Fender Telecasters sporting single coil pickups but because the design has been used so much, there probably isn't an electric guitar brand that doesn't have single coil pickups in some of their guitars.

The single coil was the first pickup design for electric guitars and without the single coil, we wouldn't have humbucking electric guitars either. The humbucker is made up of putting two single coils together to 'buck the hum' that is heard when plugged into an amp due to the flow of electricity through a mains circuit.
