Digital Delay Pedals
Digital Delay Pedals
Unlike their analogue counterparts, digital delay pedals can capture the sound of a guitar signal and repeat it precisely, without the trails deteriorating gradually over time. They work by converting your analogue guitar signal into a digital signal; sent through a series of processors that can record and store samples of your guitar playing. The stored samples are then played back in a specific way, depending on how you've set certain parameters (time, mix, decay, etc.)
Thanks to their powerful DSP chips, there's more freedom when it comes to setting up and manipulating the sound of a digital delay. For example, you can extend the time it takes for a repeat to sound much longer than with an analogue delay.
Strymon and Eventide are known for making some of the best digital delay pedals on the market, with flexible features and unparalleled tones. Boss are arguably the godfathers of digital delay though, pioneering the concept in 1984 with their DD-2 compact pedal.
