Oberheim
Oberheim
Established by visionary inventor, Tom Oberheim, he was responsible for launching the very first commercially available poly synths (the Oberheim 4 and 8) to the public, which left an indelible mark on the music world.
Nobody had ever seen instruments like these before. Featuring world-first digital patch memory storage - and the option to play chords, alongside multitimbral sounds - the synths opened up entirely new creative avenues that had never been available before. You can hear them on iconic tracks from the likes of Prince and Stevie Wonder!
The Oberheim formula was refined further with subsequent synth releases, from the pioneering OB-X, OB-Xa and OB-8, to the ambitious Matrix 12. The OB series combined a more portable design with a single selection of controls, offering full programmability. In contrast, the Matrix 12 was a more complex, flexible beast. Equipped with groundbreaking matrix modulation, an arsenal of LFOs and filters, and multi-part layering and virtual patching functionality, the Matrix 12 still has plenty of admirers to this day.
Now, with their recent revival, they're committed to the same mission statement as before: to deliver high-quality analog synthesizers to the next cadre of modern producers and artists. Their first release - the OB-X8 - achieves just that!
