History of IK Multimedia

IK have established themselves as the go-to company when it comes to simple smartphone or tablet-based instruments or audio interfaces. They’re also the creators of one of the worlds best DAW / Recording Software plugins & VST effects for guitar: Amplitube. Essentially a guitar amp, cab and effects emulation program for your computer, Amplitube allows you to plug directly into your computer or smartphone and get a realistic guitar sound without the hassle of mic’ing up a guitar cab.

The company began in 1996 in Italy where they asked the question ‘Could you emulate electronic circuits using DP algorithms and feed an audio signal through the computer and get the same sound?

They soon discovered that the answer was yes, and IK Multimedia have based their entire business model on this ethos.

The IK MultiMedia Range

The IK Multimedia range that we stock at Andertons Music Co. will enable you to make the most of your smartphone or tablet.

The iRig was a pioneer in that it allowed users to plug their guitar directly into their iPhone and then use headphones to practice. The iRig still exists but has been updated for newer phones with improved fidelity and sound quality.

The iRig range defines their smartphone-enabled gear and that includes the iRig acoustic which is a pickup that you can stick onto your guitar, the iRig Pre which allows you use a recording microphone with an XLR input, and the iRig keys which is a small MIDI keyboards & controllers that’ll fit into your backpack.

If you’re after gear that’ll enable you to record on the road or just free up your home practice rig, then IK Multimedia will probably have the answer.
