For guitarists fond of getting their gain tones from pedals, the concept of gain stacking probably isn't a new one. Dual overdrives are often specifically voiced to compliment each other, and they take up a small footprint and less power demands than two separate pedals!

Some dual overdrive pedals will use a normal gainstage and a boost such as Thorpy "The Dane" while others will use the two of the same circuit to further saturate your tone, like the Tone City King of Blues. Commonly dual overdrives will combine two different circuits, like the Ceriatone Horsebreaker or Browne Amplification Protein.
