The djembe is known for its relatively loud volume for its size, and can be used to create a full percussive ensemble effect; it can deliver multiple tones depending on the technique used to play it, but it's most often played between the knees or hung from the neck by a strap. Djembes have a unique resonance in that they can produce bassy thuds, sharp snare-like attacks, and incredible sustained overtones. That's why they're sometimes referred to as 'talking drums' - they have multiple voices that can be used to great effect!
The bodies of djembes were originally carved from hardwood with drumheads made from rawhide, but nowadays a multitude of materials are used to ensure consistent tone and durability. Our range features offerings from Meinl, Remo, Toca and more, with prices starting at just £49! Check out our full selection below!
