Vic Firth
Vic Firth
Vic Firth is one of the biggest names in the drum world. They’ve long been a go-to brand for sticks and drum accessories for countless players worldwide!
Founded in 1963 in Boston, Massachusetts, the company is considered by many to be the world’s largest purveyor of drum sticks, mallets and accessories, all of which are manufactured in Newport, Maine. The man behind the brand, Vic Firth himself, was a drummer and percussionist who had spent years studying music and playing with numerous musicians in the ‘40s and ‘50s. He set about designing his own drumsticks to cope with his demanding schedule, and in 1963, the company was born!
Firth continued as a performing musician right up until 2002, as the principal timpanist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He passed away in 2015, but has left behind one of the biggest legacies in the modern drum world and remains one of the most respected individuals in the industry!
The Vic Firth brand continues to innovate to this day, always striving to improve their designs and achieve the perfect drum performance experience! Their product line is designed and made by drummers, for drummers, ensuring a level of passion and knowledge that’s difficult to match.
In 2010, the company merged with the Avedis Zildjian Company. Zildjian were another company firmly rooted in tradition, with a deep family ties within the company, while always looking forward in their approach to the business. This combination meant that both manufacturers could continue to thrive in the ever-changing music industry!
