In 1958, Gibson unveiled two radical guitar designs that would (literally) change the shape of things to come: the Explorer and the Flying V. The introduction of these models divided opinion, with many considering them too radical for serious musicians. Fast forward to 1963, and the Firebird makes it debut appearance. Yet another bold step for the company, it was clear that Gibson weren’t afraid to break the rules.

Over the years, these instruments collectively became known as the Designer range. These striking instruments have been used by countless artists over the years, including James Hetfield (Metallica), The Edge (U2), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Jimi Hendrix among others - a testament to their timeless popularity.

Nowadays, Gibson produce a beautiful range of affordable Designer models through their Epiphone brand. These officially-licensed designs offer the trademark striking aesthetics and rich sound at a more affordable price point. Features like Korina bodies and vintage-style humbuckers still make a regular appearance!
