Austrian Audio

Despite being a relatively new company, Austrian Audio have an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of recording microphone and headphone technology, having been born out of the closure of AKG’s offices in Vienna back in 2017. Twenty two employees made the transition from their previous roles to form Austrian Audio and bring with them all of their skills gained through the design and manufacture of classic microphones and headphones.

They have hit the ground running and quickly developed their patented CKR12 ceramic capsule, handcrafted specifically to fit in their OC18 and OC818 large diaphragm condenser microphones. This capsule gives the microphones an incredible high sensitivity, low self-noise and the ability to handle everything from a whisper to extreme SPLs, making it perfect for studio, broadcast and live applications. The unique design of the CKR12 capsule is so consistent, any OC818 is match-paired with any other OC818 and, when in cardioid mode, it can also be match-paired with any OC18.

Other microphones have also been introduced to the range, again, built on the experience of the designers and engineers including the OC707, OD505 and OD303 Dynamic microphones with their unique open acoustic design to reduce proximity effect and handling noise. The CC8 True Condenser microphone and the OC7 and OD5 Instrument 7 drum microphones are other great additions.

Addressing podcasters and the need to record remotely, Austrian Audio also designed MiCreator Studio and MiCreator Satellite, a pair of USB-C microphones with instrument inputs and headphone monitoring that can be used separately or paired for stereo recordings.

With the freedom of a new company, they have also started designing software apps to compliment their microphones such as Polar Pilot that enables you to control the OC818 remotely via Bluetooth. And Polar Designer, where you can create and store your own polar patterns and then apply them to the OC818 either at the recording stage or, amazingly, change/automate them in your DAW / Recording software post-recording!

And headphones ! Their acclaimed Hi-X range of open and closed back headphones are gaining a great reputation with their proprietary high precision drivers, robust engineering and comfort.
