Kali Audio

Kali Audio

Kali Audio was founded in 2018 by veteran loudspeaker designers who wanted the freedom to build excellent products without answering to corporate overlords. Primarily focused on studio monitors, Kali has made a name for themselves with affordable, high-quality products that are equally at home in home studios and fully professional facilities. Because of their wide adoption across so many recording and producing environments, you have certainly heard something that was mixed on Kali monitors.

Project Lone Pine

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Kali names all of their products after towns in California. Their debut product line is Project Lone Pine or the LP-Series, which are entry level two way monitors. These are available in 6- and 8-Inch models, as well as an innovative Ultra Near Field model, dubbed the LP-UNF. All Project Lone Pine speakers feature a woofer and tweeter, and have boundary EQ settings available on the back of the speaker that allow you to tailor the sound to your space with a few easy switches.

Project Independence

One step up from Project Lone Pine is Project Independence, or the IN-Series. These speakers each feature a woofer and a coaxial midrange and tweeter. The addition of a midrange driver means that important midrange information like guitars and vocals are presented with more clarity. It also means that both the woofer and tweeter are doing less work, lowering distortion. Project Independence speakers are available in 5- and 8-Inch sizes, as well as an Ultra Near Field model. The IN-Series are well loved for their translation and imaging characteristics. They’re fun to work on, but they also present an honest view of your mix that will translate easily to a wide variety of playback environments.

Project Watts

Project Watts is Kali’s lineup of Studio subwoofers. There are currently two models: the larger WS-12, which features a 12-inch woofer, and the diminutive but powerful WS-6.2, which features two 6-inch woofers. The WS-12 is recommended for high-SPL applications and immersive audio. One WS-12 can provide LFE for any Kali playback system up to 5.1. Two subwoofers can provide LFE for any Kali atmos system. The WS-6.2, by contrast, is made to fit nicely under a desk. Despite its small size, it is a very powerful subwoofer, outputting a max SPL of 120 dB with anechoic response down to 27 Hz.

Project Santa Monica

Kali’s newest and best line is Project Santa Monica, or the SM-Series. Drawing on the coaxial 3-way architecture that is so highly praised in the IN-Series, the SM-Series uses higher-end materials and manufacturing techniques to deliver an uncompromising studio monitor. With <0.75% total harmonic distortion, it is a remarkable loudspeaker made for the most demanding mixing applications. The SM-Series features user-editable DSP that can process room calibration directly in the speaker, meaning that you don’t need additional processing in your signal chain.

Kali’s Commitment

Whether you’re making your first record at home, or preparing an award-winning masterpiece, Kali Audio has a studio monitor that fits your budget and gives you the best possible loudspeaker for the money you have to spend. All of their products are designed to be easy and fun to work on, and to give you results that will translate faithfully, making your job easier.
