12 String Acoustic Guitars
12 String Acoustic Guitars
What is a 12-string acoustic guitar? This is a great place to start; the idea behind the 12-string guitar is a surprisingly simple one. Imagine a 6-string guitar, but with each string doubled – you’re essentially there! The four lower strings (E, A, D, G) are doubled up with a string that’s an octave higher, while the top two strings (B, E) are doubled with a string that plays the same note.
This design results in the strings resonating in a unique way, with the minute differences in tone providing a lush, chorus-like effect. This sound was made popular during the 1970s, favoured by bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Yes. It’s since become an instantly recognisable sound, used in a variety of music styles.
Many manufacturers nowadays offer 12-string versions of their instruments. We’re proud to stock 12-string offerings from the likes of Taylor, Epiphone, Faith, Ibanez and many more.
